About Us

We are a Harvard Alumni Association (HAA) Club based in Detroit, Michigan, dedicated to serving the alumni, parents, and students of Harvard University who live in Detroit, Ann Arbor, and eastern Michigan.  Our club sponsors social, cultural, and educational events, interviews applicants to Harvard College from eastern Michigan, and supports community and public service projects. There are many opportunities to get involved.

Our Club depends upon the support of the local Harvard community.  As a volunteer alumni organization,  we receive no financial assistance from the University.  Since we are a registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt, non-profit organization, your dues and donations to our educational and scholarship funds are tax-deductible.

From the President...

Although named after the Motor City, our membership extends far beyond its borders – from Ann Arbor, to Toledo and Windsor. Our mailing list consists of several thousand undergraduate and graduate school alumni.

The past year required us to stand strong against the pandemic, with a resultant pause in group gatherings.  Previously, Club activities consisted of regular guest speakers and events throughout the Metro area.  Among our many noteworthy speakers were President Lawrence Bacow, Governor Snyder, and cellist Yo-Yo Ma.  Outings included nearby world class theater (such as the Stratford Festival) and trips to the many locations that exemplify Detroit’s rich heritage – from the DIA, to Greenfield Village and the original home of Motown Music.  Our dining options range from the auto barons’ grand mansions to networking at the latest wine bars and breweries.  It is exciting to now resume interactions.

We welcome you to be an active member or supporter of the Harvard Club of Detroit.  If you have ideas for unique activities, interesting program events, prospective Club members or for anything else, please let us know.  We look forward to seeing you at a Harvard event soon.

Sincerely,

Gregory P. Theokas, JD MBA
President
